Individual Counseling
Everyone is unique, and individual counseling should be tailored to each person’s needs.
The goal of individual counseling is to help you understand your thoughts, feelings, and how you interact with the world around you.
Life can get so busy that we forget to slow down and listen to ourselves.
Sometimes, we lose sight of what really matters or even lose a sense of who we are. We may need new tools to manage our mental health outside of therapy, or we might need more time for reflection. Either way, it’s important for our well-being in any phase of life.
We work with many different issues and mental health concerns, and our goal is to offer you a safe space to reflect, explore, and understand what you’re going through from a new perspective.
Telehealth
We offer telehealth because it’s convenient for many clients and allows us to reach more people. We also offer just audio therapy with no video necessary.
Telehealth is just virtual mental health counseling that you can do from home.
We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform called SimplePractice for telehealth sessions. Before starting, there are a few things to keep in mind.
SimplePractice has a helpful guide to explain how to prepare and what to expect: “Getting Started with Telehealth”.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the telehealth process.

Geriatric
- As we age, we may begin to face unique issues and diagnoses not commonly seen in other age groups. Even when they are diagnosed with a more common illness such as depression, age-related issues such as isolation can be to blame.
- Geriatric counseling is counseling directed towards the aging population and their specific needs. It addresses mental health concerns, substance abuse, and access to resources. Geriatric counselors provide psychoeducation and work with families and caregivers to address their needs as well.
- There are some very unique issues that aren’t too often seen in younger adults. Some of those issues are:
- dementia
- role-reversal with your children
- home and safety concerns
- aging
- chronic illnesses
- loss of loved ones
- social isolation
- mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety
- We employ various therapeutic techniques to help seniors cope with life transitions, enhance their emotional well-being, and improve their overall quality of life.
Addictions
- We help people who have addictions get treatment. We’re experts on the ins and outs of addiction and develop tailored treatment plans based on your specific addiction, needs and goals. We’re experts at understanding the underlying causes of addiction. We use several techniques to help address the many factors that contribute to and reinforce addictions.
- We can help with:
- Assessment: Assesses your mental through discussions to determine the severity of the addiction, your readiness for change and if you have other mental health conditions (dual diagnosis). Looks for potential challenges that may affect your treatment and other needs and opportunities.
- Treatment planning: Develop personalized plans to address each addiction. Treatment plans may involve medical care (like medication and hospital management), therapy, rehab programs, support groups and more. Counselors often create treatment plans in coordination with other healthcare providers. Each plan is created to match your needs and goals.
- Referrals: Acts as a bridge between you and outside resources that may be necessary for your treatment plan. For example, a counselor might refer you to a support group, medical care or job placement services.
- Intervention: A counselor may have to intervene in crises when someone is endangering their life or the lives of others. They also intervene in noncrisis situations by encouraging a person with an addiction to get help. Friends and family members often request noncrisis interventions.
- Counseling: Provide counseling (psychotherapy, or “talk therapy”) for individuals or groups of people with addictions. Also may provide therapy for family members and friends of people with addictions.
- Education: May teach family members and friends about addictions. They learn ways to support their loved one throughout treatment.
- Case management documentation: Documentation is essential to helping addiction counselors, other healthcare providers, people receiving care and families track the progress of treatment. In some cases, addiction counselors may need to provide updates and progress reports to law enforcement or court systems.
